Dan Owens
SENIOR PRODUCT & INTERACTION DESIGNER
I like turning ambiguity into something people can work with.
Most of my work involves modernizing existing systems that already have users and can't afford disruption.
I get close to the problem, make the tradeoffs clear and prototype early.
SELECTED WORK

Alerts mobile redesign
The alerts experience had inherited a dated desktop structure that didn’t work well on mobile.
I redesigned the mobile experience and created a scalable subscription framework supporting more than 50 alert types across 13 account categories.

Customer service intranet
E*TRADE's customer service teams relied on multiple backend systems for account servicing, research and operational workflows.
I designed the structure and workflows for the new platform, and my wireframes became the reference for development and QA.
Auto loans application
The existing loan application required customers to interpret error states and conditional requirements as they moved through the flow.
I used a responsive prototype with progressive disclosure and contextual guidance; the redesigned application launched nationally and booked more than $50 million in its first month.

Online account opening
The existing account opening experience had several friction points, and the vendor was preparing a mobile version.
I used journey mapping and high-fidelity prototypes to improve key interactions and help shape the new platform.
EXPLORATORY WORK
AI governance & oversight
These prototypes extend my enterprise systems work into AI-enabled products, exploring how people guide, review and override automated behavior.
Monitoring preferences
Set when an automated system stays quiet, notifies or escalates.
Agent message review
Decide when agent-generated communications require human review.
Signal options
Compare competing interpretations instead of relying on a single AI-generated answer.
